Florence Meredith is a costume designer and maker based in East London, working primarily with Contemporary Dance. Upon graduating from UAL with a first-class degree in 2014, Florence was awarded for the realisation of her designs and selected for a costume internship at Trinity Laban. Since its completion, Florence has enjoyed designing for choreographers such as Hetain Patel, H2 Dance, Samir Kennedy, Theo Clinkard and Hagit Yakira. As well as designing for dance, Florence has worked as a costume maker for Amanda Barrow, as a costume technician at Central Saint Martins, and as a wardrobe assistant for English National Ballet both on tour and in the company costume store. Florence took a permanent role at Trinity Laban in 2019 as Senior Costume Technician, where she continues to design, cut and make costumes for in-house productions, and as a freelancer.
The costume design for Un-Sound was largely developed through studio experimentation, working in collaboration with the dancers and choreographic team to create a distinctive world of intense sound and texture. Hairy, voluminous costumes are manipulated to reveal moments of bold colour and transformed silhouettes, exploring themes of group behaviour, display, and communication.
