Biography

Ashley is a Theatre Designer and educator based in the Liverpool. He has designed set and costumes for many pantomimes, plays, musicals and dance productions across the country and has twice been part of the team representing the UK at the Prague Quadrennial. His first professional design job was with Michael Boyd at The Tron, Glasgow in 1986. He was the Associate Designer at The Dukes, Lancaster for a while where designs included Much Ado About Nothing, The Adventures of King Arthur and Look Back in Anger.

He designed seven shows for the old Liverpool Everyman Theatre, including three rock and roll pantomimes.

He was the Course Leader for Theatre and Performance Design at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts for over a quarter of a century and retired in September 2024. He designed Angels in America for the Unity and with Sam Heath has created two acclaimed puppet-based performances, Front Window and the acclaimed theatre-for-one show Solotoria.

Recent work includes the set design for Cinderella – A Pantomime for Las Vegas at the University of Nevada, Krapp’s Last Tape at the Unity and Winter Wonderland– a Christmas show by “that theatre Group” which toured Liverpool and Wirral care homes.
