The design | stage workshops and talks programme Making, Unmaking, Remaking (MUR) is a gathering of industry professionals, educators, researchers, institutions, and anyone with an interest in the potential of Theatre and Performance Design. Through processes of making, questioning, and reshaping we will try to find answers to more sustainable, inclusive, and timely ways of working in theatre and performance.
> Making relates to crafting and doing using materials, but it also relates to creating worlds and to storytelling using imaginary, immaterial, relational and social practices. Within an educational context it also relates to Learning. How are we learning as designers? How do we pass on this learning?
> Unmaking considers questioning and potentially dismantling or dissecting already established ways of Making to give way for new ways of doing and understanding. Within an educational context it also relates to Unlearning. Which practices do we need to question and potentially unlearn as designers and makers for Making that is more sustainable, accessible, decolonial and inclusive?
> Remaking incorporates old and new possibilities, technologies, materialities and doings to our renewed practices. Within an educational context it also relates to Relearning. What and from whom do we need to re-learn for navigating today’s theatre and performance landscape in order to remain relevant in the current climate?
We are calling for the sharing of your expertise and creative methods either through a workshop or a talk (as part of a day of events/curated discussion panel).
