hello stranger national exhibition printed catalogue

SCROLL TO DISCOVER MORE

The national exhibition project for 2019 – 2023 is about welcoming designers, makers and audiences back, to catch up on the landscape of UK performance design. It’s a chance to reconnect, be together, and reach out to new communities and audiences.

hello stranger emphasises responsivity and openness in the context of a changing world. As we emerge from the pandemic and face up to climate crisis, legacies of inequality, global conflict and the increasing prevalence of digital technologies in our lives, we face a changed landscape for performance design and scenography. How are performance designers responding and adapting to the key challenges of our times? How is our artform evolving in response to a changing world? What voices have been missing from the conversation?

This catalogue is part one of a three-part publication series for the national exhibition project, published by Performance Research Books. It’s an opportunity for all UK designers to have their work represented as part of the national exhibition of UK performance design project for 2023.

hello stranger is about welcoming designers, makers and audiences back to reconnect and catch up. It aims to capture UK performance design at a time of change and upheaval, and ask questions about where we are going. The catalogue will reflect the last four years of practice. We are inviting submissions for designs created between 2019-2023. These can be realised productions, unrealised designs for productions that were cancelled during the pandemic (or forthcoming productions), and online or hybrid productions.
