May Davies
I am a Cumbrian born, London based production designer making shorts and indie feature films that screen at festivals all over the world. I have designed stage performances for venues including The Park and The Pleasance theatres and films for art installation including exhibitions at The Barbican. I am also an art director on feature films, The Critic (2023) and TV Drama, Landscapers (2022) which won a TV BAFTA for best production design.
I have 10+ years experience in community engagement for underrepresented people in the industry through my work at leading film and arts charity, Signal Film and Media in Barrow-in-Furness. I remain committed to encouraging new faces into the industry through mentoring (BFI Film Academy and Bafta Crew), and by taking part in events with the British Film Designers Guild and The Production Designer’s Collective.
Since completing a masters with distinction in theatre design at Wimbledon College of Art 2016, the scenographic process of stage design remains a firm influence for my work in film. I am proud to be a committee member for the SBTD giving me the opportunity to get involved in PQ 2019 and 2023. Bridging the field of film and theatre is important to me and I feel I can do that by being involved with networks in both fields.
