Biography

Russell Craig - Set and Costume designer.
Russell Craig initially trained and worked in New Zealand. Since arriving in Britain in 1974 he has designed extensively both here and abroad.
British Theatre companies he has designed for include The Royal Shakespeare Company and various regional companies in Sheffield, Manchester, Salisbury, Newcastle, Chichester and in London at Greenwich, Watford, The Young Vic, The Unicorn Children's Theatre and the Royal Court Youth Theatre.

Russell's most notable plays include The Taming of the Shrew (R.S.C.), The Rivals (Royal Exchange, Manchester), The Recruiting Officer and Much Ado About Nothing and Lovers (The Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh), Therese Raquin (Communicado, Edinburgh), Huckleberry Fin (Greenwich, London) and Cinderella (Unicorn, London).

Major Opera companies that Russell has worked for in the U.K. include The English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North, The Welsh National Opera, Sadlers Wells and D'Oyly Carte. Abroad he has worked in Ireland, The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Canada and in the U.S.A.

Notable Opera Productions he has worked on include Ariadne auf Naxos and The Rape of Lucretia (E.N.O.), The Magic Flute and Boris Godunov (Opera North), Le Comte Ory and The Barber of Seville (W.N.O.), La Boheme (Glyndebourne, touring), Hansel and Gretel (Grand Theatre, Geneva) and L'Elisir d'amore (La Monnaie, Brussels).

Musicals Russell has worked on include; Bitter Sweet ( Sadlers Wells) Show Boat ( R.S.C. , Opera North , London Palladium) My Fair Lady ( Minneapolis, Houston) and Guys and Dolls (Edinburgh Royal Lyceum)

In 1983 he represented Britain at the Prague Quadrennial with Cosi Fan Tutte (Opera North) and 8 Songs for a Mad King (Edinburgh Festival).

Russell also has wide teaching and lecturing experience and is an accomplished prop maker.
