Paul trained with Margaret Harris at the Riverside Studios and was awarded a Diploma of Honour at the 1999 Prague Quadrennial. He has won the Critics' Circle Award in both 2000 and 2001, the Evening Standard Award for Best Design in 2001 and has been awarded a fellowship of the Welsh College of Music and Drama.
