Student Ambassador Programme

We are excited to introduce SBTD’s first group of design students taking part in SBTD’s inaugural Student Ambassador Programme.

Our fourteen ambassadors are students at a variety of different performance design courses across seven institutions and will be facilitated by Hannah Harding, a recent graduate from Royal Holloway, University of London.

We are grateful to them for volunteering their time for this role and can’t wait to start working with them to build even stronger connections between SBTD and student designers and makers.

Hi! My name’s Jasper – I’m a costume designer, currently studying Costume and Set Design at The University of Derby, in my final year. My interest lies in theatrical costume design and scenography –

creating period accurate costumes and spaces. However, my focus right now is blending psychology/theory with
costume design for performance – to explore meanings, through comprehending phenomenology in performance. I’m also exploring how a costume design can impact a performer’s perception and experience with a site-specific location. In the future I would love to explore theory in scenography more – I’m also looking at using the premise of interdisciplinary factors in contemporary art/design.

I am a creative director and digital designer, currently studying at Central Saint Martins, BA Hons Performance Design and Practice. My focus is in using game engine, immersive technologies, and new emergent media to re-render the performer with superhuman,

spiritual powers within the virtual space. I work collaboratively with artists from fields such as music, dance, theatre, and other visual arts, creating digital experiences that become our bodily extension into cyber world.

Sophie Greenaway

My name is Sophie Greenaway, and I am a 3D Effects for Performance and Fashion student studying at the London College of Fashion, UAL. My personal practitioner aesthetic includes working with the body in

experimental ways and creating unique and original pieces to accompany the performer. I have had a tremendous amount of fun throughout my journey navigating the world of performance and theatre, and have found a true passion for creating theatre props, sculpting, and the wonderful world of stop motion animation. Some of my career goals include working with theatre companies to produce eye catching, innovative and exciting designs, as well as diving into the world of stop motion and exploring this through filmmaking and various companies. One of my proudest achievements so far would be being chosen by my course leader to represent our course and LCF in a student ambassador role to assistant new students in navigating their journey through studying at UAL. I loved this role as I have a deep satisfaction for being of service. An interesting fact about me is that I love to press flowers and immerse myself in mindful craftsmanship in my spare time!

Hello my name is Kaitlin Duncan. I am 19 years old, Level 5 student studying Design for Theatre and Performance at Rose Bruford College. I have been involved and interested in the theatre industry focusing on the creative aspect

from  a young age. Whilst I was beginning to  develop my skills I  had  the great opportunity to attend The Brit School on the Production Arts course for two years. With in my future career I would like to explore how we can make theatre more accessible by using our creative mindsets, my  focus being  how we can incorporate captioning within design and making it the norm rather than the exception.

My name is Katy Roberts, I am 21 years old and currently a level 5 Design for theatre and performance student, studying at Rose Bruford College. I started my journey in theatre as a performer, studying Musial theatre and acting

through my local college in Cornwall. My interest and drive towards fine art and illustrations over took that of performing. All my interest for theatre and art came together in the practice of theatre design. I am mostly interested in physical and dance piece of performance, and how creative leads can collaboratively create moving and impactful piece of theatre. In the future I would want to seek opportunities where I can be considered a multidisciplinary collaborator, with a team of other creatives, working of projects that have agendas for social and political change.

‘I’m Isabella I’m a second-year student at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. I have a keen interest in multidisciplinary set design focusing on the relationship between fashion and

performance, my biggest inspirations are Shona Heath, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. I love the merging of performance and art, particularly the role of theatricality within mediums such as photography. I hope that as a designer I can bring these interests to my work within theatre. I’m really looking forward to bringing my interests to the SBTD and learning from others!’

Hi, I’m Eleanor, a 2nd year costume design and making student here at NTU. I would love to work in theatre, film or TV. I have many skills in costume construction and my eye for detail and excitement of

different techniques drives my passion when creating all sorts of garments. Being a practical person I’m quick to problem solve. I love designing with colour and I’m never shy of a pattern. Before university I had created many items for people in my local community as well as friends and family. I’ve also designed and made for school productions but I can’t wait to gain more experience in the professional industry.  My goal is not only to have a successful career as a costume designer/ maker, but I also aspire to continually keep myself active, my time management is something I pride myself in and I always strive to be the best version of myself.
