2011 Education Programme:
Transformation & Revelation Education Programme
A complete programme of workshops will accompany the exhibition throughout March and April 2011.
The programme of workshops running alongside the exhibition will show students how designers and artists bring plays to life. Being introduced to the ideas and processes behind theatre design can be an extraordinary experience – whether revelling in the miniature world of scale models, looking behind the scenes at famous shows or appreciating the exquisite costumes and striking puppets, there is a wealth of stimuli for students to enjoy.
There are numerous opportunities for students to experience during the exhibition –
A guided tour for pupils plus a choice of workshop is available between March 22nd and April 15th 2011.
Workshops include:
• Mask making techniques
• Puppet making
• Puppetry and animation
• Creating costumes
• Set design and model making
• Casting and mould making
• Scenepainting and paint effects
• Lighting, sound and projection.
A choice of individual items or combined packages are possible.
However limited places are available and given on a first come first served basis.
A teacher training session will take place on Monday 21st March 2011, with 3 sessions available;
• 10am – 12.30pm Guided Tour + choice of Designing for Theatre talk or puppetry workshop
• 1pm – 3pm Guided Tour + choice of Designing for Theatre talk or mask making workshop
• 5pm – 7.30pm Guided Tour + choice of Designing for Theatre talk or sound & lighting workshop

The workshops will be tailored to meet the needs of different education stages –
Primary Schools
A series of hands on workshops, supported by exhibition tours, an activity area and creative education packs will provide an excellent resource for teachers and a stimulating experience for the pupils.
Secondary Schools
Secondary school Art & Design, Design Technology, English, Drama and Theatre Studies pupils will be presented with an unrivalled opportunity to explore this huge resource of multimedia design, digital design, 3D models, sculpture, drawings, photography and a wide range of design response to set texts.
FE provision
BTEC, GNVQ and foundation programmes from across Wales and the UK will be attracted to this resource, as it provides an excellent introduction to the subject area, providing a real sense of the many varied approaches to designing for performance.
HE provision and conference
The exhibition will provide a rich resource of research for students studying Drama at university level across Wales, and the UK.
It also has become the focus every four years for students from the Association of Courses in Theatre Design, with 23 members across the UK Including a separate combined schools exhibit, featuring the product of interdisciplinary and cross institutional collaboration.
Transformation & Revelation will bring students from across all areas of Design and realisation for performance to Cardiff to visit the exhibition and take part in a two day conference for all ACTD schools members.
