Course Description:
Theatre Design and its associated arts and crafts is a diverse area of study which offers a wide range of potential employment opportunities. The discipline is so broad as to contain a wide number of transferable skills, from time-management to visual communication, to the study of antiques or the electronics of theatre lighting.
In essence it provides a vehicle through which a wide range of academic, creative, conceptual and practical skills can be explored. The main aim of the degree is to produce graduates with a critical understanding of the collaborative process of theatre, alongside a high level of skill in one or more areas of design or technical theatre arts.
The rationale behind a broad based course is to provide students with the opportunity to identify and develop their particular strengths and interests during their time at college; whilst at the same time acknowledging that, particularly in the area of small and middle scale touring and regional repertory, a range of skills are required from
practitioners. It is also important to produce graduate artists with the confidence and acumen to investigate and develop their own projects as an avenue towards future employment.
