Course Description:
The MA in Scenography is a unique course taught in pre-eminent Scenography Colleges across Europe. Each student studies in two countries during the course, gaining deep insight into Theatre Design at the highest level. The two main centres are Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and Utrecht School of Arts in The Netherlands. Also involved as Phase 2 Centres are DAMU College in Prague, Czech Republic and Instituto Del Teatro in Seville, Spain.
The MA is centred on the Independent Research Project of each student. This is developed in the context of a shared programme of key questions about scenography. The projects take a number of forms from video, performance, installation, to research and documentation. The Independent Research Project is presented at Scenoworks'98
Pete Brooks, the noted director and scenographer, is succeeding Professor Pamela Howard as Artistic Director of the innovative International Masters Course in Scenography. The course, based at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, has created centres of scenographic study in Utrecht, Prague, Seville and Helsinki. Pamela Howard, founder of the course, will continue as Professor with an advisory role in the School of Art with a special emphasis on international scenographic research projects. Both Pete Brooks and Pamela Howard continue as freelance professional scenographers and directors.
