The courses aim to give students the widest possible theatrical education and professional vocational training to produce efficient, confident, creative and technically skilled Stage Managers, Designers and Production Staff who can work in all areas of the entertainment industry. The syllabus is designed to enable students to
study all aspects of production and stage management, design and technical theatre in the classroom, in project work and in practical exercises in a theatre environment, prior to working on productions shown to the public.
Two Year Course
This course is designed to train professional Stage Managers and Theatre Technicians. All students study a common core foundation year, which covers the managerial, practical and technical disciplines of Stage Management and Technical Theatre. The second year is predominantly production-based, giving students the opportunity to
practise their chosen discipline through working on a wide variety of 6 productions in different theatre spaces. In the second year students may opt for more production allocations in the following areas: Stage and company management, lighting, sound, property making and scenic construction or cover all these areas.
This course can lead to a Dip HE (validated by Surrey University)
One Year Course
A one year option which allows post-graduate and mature students the opportunity to study the managerial, practical and technical disciplines of stage management. Students also work with the Acting and Musical Theatre course students on performance projects, television exercises and final term productions. A number of
graduating students have used this course to prepare themselves as directors, and others have set up their own touring companies. Students work closely with those studying on the two year course, sharing some selected lectures, classes and exercises and working together with them as members of production teams.
This course can lead to a Cert. HE (validated by Surrey University)
