Biography
Tim has designed for stage, television and film. He has designed over fifty-five productions for the West End stage, twenty of which are musicals. He has also designed twenty productions for the New Shakespeare Company. In 1988 he made ballet history when he designed the first Anglo-Soviet production of "Swan Lake" for the Moscow Classical Ballet, seen in London, USA, Japan and Moscow. He also designed the ballet "A Simple Man" for BBC2 which was the winner of the 1987 BAFTA Award. He won a Sammy Award nomination in Australia for his designs on the ballet film "The Fool on the Hill". Tim has also designed "The Look of Love" (BBC2) directed by Gillian Lynne and "Don Quixote" (Northern Ballet Theatre). His work is known internationally having designed in Britain, the USA, Egypt, Denmark, Holland, Norway, Australia, France and Canada.
London productions include: "Henry IV" (Wyndhams ); "Bus Stop" (Lyric); "The Taming of the Shrew", "The Relapse", "Zenobia ", "Three Hours After Marriage" and "The Merry Wives of Windsor" (all Royal Shakespeare Company). Tim also designed "Cyrano de Bergerac" (Stratford Ontario Festival Theatre, Canada); Cameron Mackintosh's revivals of "Oklahoma!" (London and Australia), "My Fair Lady", "The Card", "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Five Guys Named Moe" (West End, Broadway and Australia). Other West End musicals include: "A Wonderful Town", "Caf Puccini", "Pump Boys and Dinettes", "Look at Me When Im Talking To You", "Hans Anderson", "The Two Ronnies" (London Palladium) and "Gone With the Wind" (Drury Lane) as well as "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" (Sydney, Australia).
Plays include: "Our Song" (Lyric); "Chapter Two" (Gielgud); and "School For Scandal", "Love For Love" and "Blithe Spirit" (recent productions for Chichester Festival Theatre).
Opera credits include: "La Traviata" (Royal Danish Opera and WNO(; "Die Fledermaus", "La Vie Parisienne" (English National Opera); "The Mikado" (Sydney Opera House), "The Tales of Hoffmann" (Victoria State Opera) - for which he received the Design of the Year Award); "HMS Pinafore", "The Gondoliers" and "The Mikado" (Sadler's Wells); and "The Tales of Hoffmann" (Houston Grand Opera).
Tim has won three prestigious Olivier Awards for his work on "The Relapse" (RSC, 1997) and for Best Costumes and Best Set Design for "Three Hours After Marriage" (RSC, 1998).
