Simon Banham has spent the past twenty years designing and devising theatre across Britain. His work has been mainly freelance, occasionally associated with particular companies: Contact Theatre, Manchester - Head of Design (1991-1995); Quarantine - performance research company - founder member (1999-present).
As a professional designer he has created over 90 productions and his work has taken him throughout Europe and to Festivals in Brazil, co-productions in Russia and workshops for students and practitioners in Sierra Leone and India.

Since September 1998 he has taught in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television in The University of Wales, Aberystwyth, initially part-time then full time from 1999. Whilst at Aberystwyth he has been instrumental in establishing their new joint Honours programme in Scenographic studies; this and his other work for the department is fed and informed by his continuing freelance design work.
