Biography

Ruth has been actively interested in drama and theatre from an early age. She gained a BA (Hons) in Drama and English at Queen Mary, University of London in 2006 and has had a hand in a range of theatrical productions in the roles of writer, designer, actor, director, technician and stage manager.

In 2009, Ruth refocussed her passion for theatre onto design and has completed her Post-Graduate Diploma in Scenography at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in June 2010. She has assisted on several productions within college, including Playhouse Creatures (Chapter Arts Studio, 2010), Harvest (Bute Theatre, 2010) and Britten's Women (Wales Millennium Centre, 2010). Ruth also designed the set and costumes for Independent Ballet Wales' touring production of The Lady of the Lake in 2010.

Recent production work includes Mammals (set and costume designer, Caird Studio 2010), Love Steals Us From Lonliness (set assistant, National Theatre Wales and Sherman Cymru, 2010), The Wind in the Willows (set designer, Theatre 503, 2010), The Passion (associate designer, National Theatre Wales in association with Wild Works, 2011) and A Midsummer Night's Dream (set assistant, Iris Theatre, 2011).

Though now based in Cardiff, Ruth has been involved in art and drama projects in Romania, Edinburgh and Birmingham, and also frequently works in London. She has extensively worked with Shunt Theatre Company, and in 2009 created 'Persona,' an interactive sculptural installation for the Shunt Lounge in the Vaults, London Bridge. Ruth is particularly interested in site-specific work, she likes her designs to focus on the interaction between the performer and the environment they find themselves in, and the potential this offers.
