I wanted to make a world that let the storytelling live and, when combined with Wagner’s all consuming music, takes the audience on a journey with Senta. We chose to set the piece in the remote landscape of a 1950’s fishing village inspired by those on Norway’s northern coast. There, Senta’s battle between the world of her imagination and the practicalities of living life, as is expected of her, are palpable as is her desire for escape.
