Biography

JOHN BROOKING

John trained at Wimbledon School of, and has worked throughout the UK as a set and costume designer.

As costume prop maker he has worked on Les Miserables and The Wizard of Oz for the RSC and for three years was Head of Design at the Central School of Speech and Drama. As a costume maker he has produced hats for Dame Edna Everage and Cilla Black. He also worked at Alton Towers for nine years as a costume and set designer, creating a parade, magic shows and various ice shows including Peter Rabbit on Ice.

He now has a studio in Staffordshire where he continues to design for various clients as well as make costumes, props, hats and anything weird for anyone who asks! John has designed and made extensively for pantomime. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is John’s fourth productions at Stafford Castle for Stafford Festival Shakespeare having previously worked on the set for Macbeth, set and costumes for The Comedy of Errors and Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado about Nothing and Hamlet. He has recently completed work on The Lichfield Mystery Plays a large community project and “Ladies Day” and “The Entertainer” for Lichfield Garrick Theatre. I have just completed as series of costume designs for the Robinson’s sponsorship of First Families pantomimes for 2009 and designs for their production of “Dick Whittington” at the Regent Theatre in Stoke on Trent.
