Biography
James completed the Motley Theatre Design Course last summer, and prior to that studied English Literature and Drama at the University of Manchester. Since graduating from Motley James has designed 'A Man of No Importance' at the Union Theatre, Southwark and Playbox Theatre's Christmas show 'The Jungle Book' in Warwick. He was also the Production Designer for the short film 'Farringdon Smith'.
James is one of the resident emerging designers at the Bush Theatre, with a studio space there. He assisted Lucy Osborne on her designs for the Bush's production 'If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet' and continues to do work for the Bush Theatre. James was also the assistant designer and costume supervisor on Take Note Theatre's production of 'First Lady Suite'.
This year James has designed 'No Wonder' at the Library Theatre in Manchester, 'Matryoshka' at the Landor Theatre in Clapham, 'Over the Moon" at the New WImbledon Studio and the musical 'Hair' for Playbox Theatre. He has also re-designed the West End transfer of 'A Man of No Importance' at the Arts Theatre in Leicester Square. He has just designed the sight-specific piece 'Some Stories' at the Templeworks in Leeds and Blacks Members Club, Soho and will work again with the writer, Alistair McDowall on 'Plain Jane' at the Royal Exchange in Manchester. Up next is 'Cyrano De Bergerac' and 'State of Affairs' for Black and White Rainbow at the White Bear in Kennington.
