Biography

Since graduating in Theatre Design at Wimbledon School of Art, Iona McLeish has enjoyed an extensive self employed career as a designer for theatre, opera and dance. These range from productions such as “Women of Troy” (Olivier Theatre RNT), “For the Love of a Nightingale” by Timberlake Wertenbaker RSC Barbican, “India Song” with Annie Castledine and Annabel Arden (Theatr Clwyd) through to middle scale and ‘fringe’, notably “Arturo Ui” with Simon Callow at the Half Moon Theatre, “Pal Joey” with Dennis Lawson and Sian Phillips at the New Half Moon and The Albery Theatre, “The Merchant of Venice” directed by Michael Attenborough at The Young Vic and “Savannah Bay” BAC and Tour with Foco Novo. She received the London Theatre Award for Best Design. “Heresies” by Deborah Levy (RSC Barbican). Iona has also been engaged as Costume Designer on various films and TV programmes. Recent design work has included "Yours Abundantly, From Zimbabwe" Oval House Theatre, "Heldenplatz" Arcola theatre Studio One, and short film "Orla's Song" Hoffman Production.
Complementing and throughout her Design career she also enjoyed her work as a visiting lecturer in Design for Performance at a range of Colleges and Art Schools. She is Programme Director of the BA (Hons) Theatre Design programme at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in London. www.bruford.ac.uk. http://www.facebook.com/theatredesign
Iona is a Committee member of the Society of British Theatre Designers and was Joint Honorary Secretary of the SBTD from 2008 - September 2011.

Design Consultant Theatre Mélange Theatre Co.

Exhibition work includes Studio Space, Covent Garden and the SBTD Exhibitions. Her production work was included in the exhibition in the National Theatre Olivier foyer celebrating the work of Sphinx Theatre Company.
