Sea and Land and Sky ,written by Abigail Docherty ,was the winner of the Tron Theatre's Open.Stage Playwriting Competition. It is set during WW1 on the Front and focuses on Scottish Nurses who worked in the trench field hospitals. I concentrated on the theme of fabric - pristine uniforms of the nurses in the beginning - their innocent naivety , and the perfectly rolled white bandages which become more bloody as the play proceeds. The Sea, Land and Sky are all constructed in fabric too - the sky is made from stretched pieces of frayed fabric suggesting strips of bandages - the ripped fabric of society.
