Elroy studied stage design on the Motley design course.
His first professional designs were seen at The Young Vic - Oedipus and Waiting for Godot and at The Thorndike Theatre in Leatherhead - 7 productions including The Rivals and Hadrian the 7th.
He went on to become Head of Design for The Pitlochery Festival Theatre, The Haymarket Theatre in Basingstoke and at The Belgrade Theatre in Coventry designing well over 100 productions.
Elroy now works as a freelance designer with drama productions seen throughout the UK as well as in Germany, Austria, America and Malta.
He particularly enjoys working in musical theatre and ballets have included Namouna ( Asami Maki Ballet in Tokyo ), The Natives of Dreamland ( The Louisville Ballet ), Melodrame ( The Royal New Zealand Ballet and for N.A.P.C. in Durban ).
He has designed over 30 opera productions for companies such as Opera Della Luna, Stanley Hall Opera, Iford Arts, Clonter Opera and Icelandic Opera. These have included the British premiers of Stiffelio and Jonathan Dove’s Mansfield Park.
Musicals for various companies include, Gypsy, Aspects of Love, Les Miserables, West Side Story, Pump Boys and Dinettes, Wallop Mrs Cox, Little Tramp, Sticky Fingers, The Boyfriend, Godspell, They’re Playing Our Song and Comedy of Errors.
Recent work includes The Gondoliers ( Opera Della Luna at the Lowry), Faust ( Clonter Opera at the Britten Theatre), The Small Hand ( The Theatre Royal Windsor and UK tour ) and Scrooge’s Christmas ( The Ulster Theatre Company ).
