Biography
Elroy Ashmore studied design with Motley on the English National Opera Design Course and went on to assist various eminent designers in opera ballet and drama. He became an assistant designer at the Young Vic and the Thorndike Theatre in Leatherhead before heading design teams at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry and the Haymarket Theatre, Basingstoke. He now works on a freelance basis designing both sets and costumes for many of our regional theatres such as Perth Theatre, Liverpool Playhouse, Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh, Churchill Theatre, Bromley, Royal Theatre, Northampton. He also works extensively abroad with productions in Germany ("Corpse" and "Ginn Game"); ballets such as "Namouna" in Tokyo, "The Natives of Dreamland" for the Louisville Ballet in Kentucky and "Melodrame" in New Zealand and South Africa.
He designs in Northern Ireland, "Noises Off", "Arms and the Man" and "The Tempest" for The Lyric Theatre, Belfast and a major pantomime each year for The Ulster Theatre Company.
During the last four years he has designed over thirty productions, many at The Haymarket Theatre in Basingstoke where he is an associate to their artistic team.
Recent credits include: "The Daughter-in-Law" (Perth Theatre); "Ghosts", "Small Change", "Moving Susan", "Romeo and Juliet", "The Rivals", "Pump Boys and Dinettes", "Perfect Days", "Dracula" and "Jungle Book" (all Haymarket Theatre, Basingstoke); "Cinderella" (The Millennium Forum in Londonderry); "Gypsy" (Guildford School of Acting); "The Bear", "I Pagliacci", "The Barber of Seville", "La Bohème", "Così fan Tutte" and "The Marriage of Figaro" (all for Clonter Opera).
