Biography

Dody Nash is a designer and artist working in the field of dance, opera, music and visual arts in theatres, museums and public spaces. She also paints, draws, teaches, commissions and writes articles; she is a dance & ballet addict.

She has a 1st class BA Hons in English & History of Art from York University, studied at Central School of Arts & Crafts under Cecil Collins and trained at the Motley Theatre Design Course. Clients include Royal Opera House, ENO, Scottish Opera, Opera North, South Bank Centre, DuPont, Rambert, London Sinfonietta, Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea Arts Service.

Dody is recognised by the international design press for her Listening Shell sound sculpture. Commissioned by the South Bank Centre and fabricated by DuPont, it was exhibited at the Royal Festival Hall, V&A, 100% Design (London) and Designer Days (Paris). Dody subsequently worked with DuPont to further develop designs to demonstrate their material technology.

She has taught MA Performance at Queen Mary’s, University of London, and is currently a Visiting Practitioner for the MA Innovation Design at CSM University of the Arts. She has led projects for ROH, ENO, Opera North, Glyndebourne and structured projects for the Royal Designers for Industry’s summer school. Her work is archived as a resource for the Sorrell Foundation.

Dody has recently worked with Opera North, ROH Development and Jette Parker Young Artists and is 2011 Artist in Residence with Edinburgh's Royal Hospital of Sick Children.

Dance includes: Tilted Company (Berio Lounge); Low Flight (Clare Whistler); Twin Suite 2 (Rambert); Stravinsky-Kandinsky (Royal Ballet Education); Finger Dances (Place Theatre).
